Private vineyard tour with driver-guide, departing from Beaune or Dijon
Who is this option for?
A private day costs more than a seat in a minibus, that’s inevitable. What it buys you is control over the pace, and there are four profiles for whom this is truly worth it.
The families and small groups. With four or five people, you won’t have to endure others’ questions, you can choose when to have lunch, and leave a domaine whenever you want if you’re enjoying it.
People with reduced mobility. This is the first thing I check. The day with fourteen tastings is not suitable for people with reduced mobility; this one is, as is the half-day from Dijon. The château itself remains difficult: no elevator, stairs, old floors — only the restaurant is accessible. See accessibility and children.
Those coming for a specific domaine. A driver-guide knows the cellars of the Côte and can build the day around what you’re looking for, which a fixed-schedule tour does not.
Those who want to spend a long time at the clos. On a shared tour, the stop at Clos de Vougeot lasts as long as it lasts. On a private tour, you can ask to stay long enough to walk around the wall and understand the slope between the top and bottom of the plot.
What you can ask the operator
The program is discussed at the time of booking, not on the day in the car. Three requests I would make in writing when booking:
- A longer stop at Clos de Vougeot, on the vineyard side, with a walk to the wall.
- Including the château visit in the day: this must be requested from the operator, who will tell you if it’s possible on your chosen date — I cannot promise it, and the château has its own guided tour schedules.
- The choice of language: English or French, to be specified, especially if part of the group only speaks one of the two.
Lunch is not included: the driver-guide takes you wherever you want, and each person pays their own share. If the goal is to eat inside the château itself, this is not the right option; you need the lunch at La Table de Léonce.

How I would combine it with the château
The private day ends around 17 h 30 and the château closes at 18 h from April to October, with the last entry one hour before: don’t expect to do both in a row. The combination that works is the château the next morning at opening time, either for a self-guided visit or a guided tour in French at 10 h 30. You’ll have seen the vineyards from the outside the day before, and in the morning you’ll see the winery and its four presses, and the two complement each other.
