What really sets these six options apart
I’ve been doing the press house tour since I was twenty, and I live a quarter of an hour’s walk from the gate, so I see the coaches and minibuses passing by all year round. The question people almost always ask me at the shop counter is: «we booked a tour that passes through the Clos de Vougeot, do we go in?» No. «Passing through the Clos de Vougeot» means stopping at the edge of the road or at the end of a vineyard path, looking at the wall, the roof, and the plot, listening to the guide explain the terroir, taking a photo, and then moving on to a domain for a tasting. It’s a good half-hour, often the most beautiful part of the tour, but it all takes place outside.
The distinction between «inside / outside» is the first filter to apply. The second is the departure point: Beaune, Dijon, or directly Vougeot. The rest — duration, number of crus, group size, language — can be found in the table below.

Enter the château, meal included
The lunch-tasting at La Table de Léonce is the only offer that includes entry: three hours, a maximum of ten people, a guided tour of the château and a four-course meal with four Burgundy wines. For adults only. The details of the two time slots are on the page lunch at the château.
See the clos from the vineyards, with tastings
The full-day tour from Beaune, with fourteen tastings, is the most comprehensive and the highest-rated option: 4.9 out of 311 reviews. Eight and a half hours, eight people, in English, with a domain near Beaune, a cellar in Nuits-Saint-Georges with a winemaker, a shop in Chambolle-Musigny, and two photo stops — Clos de Vougeot and Romanée-Conti. Lunch is not included: the guide takes the group to a restaurant he knows.
A short option, on foot
The guided walk of two and a half hours: twenty minutes by van from Beaune, forty-five minutes walking between the plots — Romanée-Conti, Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot, Bonnes Mares, Chambertin — a cellar with a winemaker, then an hour of comparative tasting of six wines. French and English.
Departing from Dijon
Two options from Dijon: the half-day Côte de Nuits and Beaune tour (five hours, five to seven wines, two hours of free time in Beaune) and the four-hour Côte de Beaune half-day tour, which also passes by Clos de Vougeot. The château closes its ticket office one hour before closing, and on reception Saturdays it closes even earlier. If you want to see the winery on the same day as a tour, visit the château first, at opening time — the detailed opening hours are here.
What I would book
For a couple with only one day in Burgundy: lunch at the château at 11:15, then an afternoon drive along the D974 to Gevrey-Chambertin. For someone who comes primarily for the wine: the full-day tour from Beaune, and the château on another morning. For a family or group with a person with reduced mobility: the private tour, because the pace can be adjusted. What I do not recommend to anyone is combining two tours in the same day. You end up confusing the villages.
And if you only want to enter the château
You don’t need a tour to visit. The château is open every day, tickets are sold on site, and you can get there by TER train to Vougeot-Gilly-lès-Cîteaux station, then a one-kilometer walk.
